What Makes Ningxia Wines Special

Posted On: December 02, 2013

Located in the center of China, the Ningxia region is home to the Helan Mountains. The rich varietal wine grapes grown at the base of these mountains have attracted the interest of wine enthusiasts around the world.

Situated at 38 degrees north latitude, the Helan Mountain Range in Ningxia shares the same latitude as the fine wine-producing region of Napa Valley, Calif. The region offers low humidity, strong westerly winds, and intense sunshine, which result in a product with high natural sugars and fruit content.

The area has quickly gained an international reputation for producing fine-tasting wines. As a result, Chinese authorities have given approval to the development of the eastern base of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia as a wine production region.

Ningxia has taken the lead recently as the premier wine-producing region in China, thanks in part to the success of wines like Dragon’s Hollow and the award-winning Jai Bei Lan, also available from China Fine Wines.

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic!

Posted On: October 02, 2013

In the first-ever U.S. tasting, three of our esteemed bottlings of varietal wines from China received resounding approval from wine masters in Las Vegas! The wines are all produced in the Helan Shan Mountain Appellation in Ningxia, China. Known as the Napa Valley of China, Ningxia is fast becoming an internationally recognized source of fine grape-based wines.

We debuted the 2011 vintage of Dragon’s Hollow Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from China on July 30th at the Palazzo Las Vegas Hotel to an exclusive invitation-only audience. We also showed Jai Bei Lan and Silver Heights vintages for the first time in the U.S.

The reaction was excellent from the tasters, among which were two Master Sommeliers and a Master of Wine. In fact, the first three words from Robert Smith MS when he tasted the Dragon's Hollow wine was "Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!"

History:
The history of viticulture and wine in China dates back to 4600 BCE. Vines
were planted by the Greeks. Evidence of grape wine, mead (honey wine) and
mixtures of alcoholic beverages have been found in contemporary archeological
expeditions.
